Mental Health and Addiction Training Program

The Mental Health & Addictions Program at Livingwaters College equips students with in-depth knowledge and practical experience to help them not only comprehend the background and theory of treatment but also respond skillfully to a wide range of situations and clients. In addictions and mental health programmes, classes on interviewing skills, relapse prevention, and crisis management are prevalent.

Students will acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills necessary for employment as addiction workers through the Livingwaters College curriculum. Case management and professional ethics are heavily emphasised as students learn practical skills. The curriculum emphasises the development of fundamental abilities in 1-on-1 counselling as well as group facilitation. An extensive analysis of family dynamics and addiction is included in the coverage.

Understanding Substance Abuse

In this module, we present an overview of the various mental and substance use disorders. There is a wealth of information and resources available on mental illness and addictions. Most people who have a mental or substance use disorder can be effectively treated including those with disorders that are very disabling such as schizophrenia. The future is even more promising as we better understand mental illness and develop new treatments.

Abnormal Psychology

This module includes information about the history of assessment and diagnoses of abnormal psychological disorders and an overview of various psychological tests. You will learn how to administer intelligence and neuropsychological tests, and you will gain an understanding of personality inventories.

Understanding Concurrent Disorders

In this module, students will be provided with an overview of concurrent disorders, and be introduced to treatments options about substance use and mental health problems and how they interact. Students will also learn about the impact on families and social supports and explore treatment and support for people affected by concurrent disorders.

Sociology of Healthcare

In this case, it is a study of how social factors influence human health. In Public Health, sociology can help to understand the definitions, prevalence, causes, and associated perspectives of diseases and illnesses. Moreover, it also helps to understand the treatment-related issues in different societies.
