Accelerated Personal Support Worker Training Program

The PSW accelerated programme at Livingwaters College of Healthcare will provide you the skills you need to start a fulfilling career providing assistance in long-term care facilities, supportive housing, home care, adult daycare, and palliative care.

This new PSWs offer aid, care, and support to clients who are elderly, chronically ill, or have physical or mental disability. There has never been a better moment to train as a PSW and help clients and their families with the various chores that they need assistance with.

About The Program

What You Will Learn In The Classroom

The goal of the PSW accelerated certificate programme is leverage the previous healthcare knowledge to teach you in an agile environment how to successfully care for and help clients and families so that they can lead fulfilling lives both in their local communities and in institutions.

As a participant in this programme, you will gain a variety of skills with an emphasis on value, sensitivity, and respect for the uniqueness of every client. Additionally, you will have the chance to take part in cross-disciplinary and/or inter-professional learning opportunities with other members of the care and service team, such as a licenced practical nurse, a registered nurse, or a social service worker. During times of incapacitation, recuperation, or family upheaval, you will play a crucial part in providing care and company for people and families. This program guaranty the best path to build a healthcare carrier in Canada taking into account the previous knowledge and experience.

What You Will Learn In The Labs

The PSW accelerated programme includes a fully hands-on lab where students practise typical PSW tasks such as household management, assisting with bathing and other aspects of personal hygiene, administering medications, feeding, performing bedside and personal care, assisting with mobility, increasing the clients’ safety, and relying on the prior knowledge of healthcare areas that the students have.

PSW accelerated students will also complete externships in a business environment. The involves spending 155 hours in facilities and community settings while being closely supervised by a clinical instructor.

What You Will Do During Career Search

Upon completion of the program, graduates may find employment as a Personal Support Worker,
Personal Care Attendance, Live-in Caregiver or a Residential Support Worker and may find employment
in:

  • Hospital

  • Group homes
  • Private care facilities
  • Clients’ homes

Healthcare and Applied Legislation

This module helps to know how to work within the personal support worker role in community, retirement homes, long-term care homes and/or hospital care settings in accordance with all applicable legislation and employer’s job description, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Personal Support Work Foundations

Students will learn about the responsibilities and areas of expertise of professionals who serve patients and families in private homes and long-term care facilities. The range of environments, working relationships, degree of supervision, requirement for adaptation to various environments, and time and stress management will all be discussed.

Collaborative Relationships; Interprofessional Teams

These modules aim to provide individuals across the healthcare professions with an introduction to the foundational elements of Interprofessional Practice, including conflict management, understanding, and incorporating patient perspectives, teams and teamwork, collaborative practice, and compassionate collaborative care.

Client Centered Strategies

Communication with patients and families about all aspects of their care, treatment or services is a critical part of client-centered care. When patients know what to expect, they are have more choices, they make better decisions, and they have more realistic expectations. You will come to know such client centered Strategies in this module
